buildingSMART Chile has been formally approved as a “Chapter-in-formation”

London, U.K. – December 8th, 2025buildingSMART International (bSI) is pleased to announce that buildingSMART Chile has been formally approved as a "Chapter-in-formation". The latest Chapter to join the buildingSMART community becomes the 40th globally and the 4th in Latin America.

Driven by BIM Forum Chile (BFCh), the newly formed Chapter aims to accelerate the adoption of open standards to strengthen interoperability and advance the digital transformation of Chile’s construction industry. Its mission is to promote the use of open standards across the sector, and its vision is to help transform the national industry through open digital technologies that foster competitiveness, collaboration, and sustainability.

buildingSMART Chile has set clear objectives focused on training, innovation, strategic partnerships, impact measurement, and the dissemination of success stories. Through increased adoption in both public and private projects, the Chapter will support certification programs, education and training initiatives, the translation of standards, the development of open resource platforms, and the growth of a collaborative professional community.

Guided by a phased roadmap extending through 2030 and supported by a sustainable financial model built on memberships, training programs, and strategic agreements, the Chapter aims to position itself as a national and regional leader in interoperability and digital transformation.

Jorge Simpson, from BFCh, commented, "The approval of buildingSMART Chile as a Chapter-in-formation marks a decisive step toward strengthening interoperability and the adoption of open standards in our country. As a non-profit corporation, BIM Forum Chile has, for many years, brought together key stakeholders across the national ecosystem, and this new stage will allow us to further consolidate that work through training, standards translation, technical working groups, and broader adoption in both public and private projects.

We also reaffirm our commitment to actively supporting the initiatives led by buildingSMART International, contributing to the coordinated advancement of open standards and to the strengthening of the global interoperability ecosystem.”

Aidan Mercer, Marketing Director of bSI, commented, “I am delighted to share that Chile has become the 40th Chapter of buildingSMART International and this is not only a milestone for us, but I also believe for Chile too. This is now the 4th in recent years from Latin America and the opportunity demonstrated by the applications was exciting to see. We look forward to working with them and learning about some of the innovative programs they have.”
