buildingSMART México has been formally approved as a “Chapter-in-formation”
London, U.K. – August 27, 2025 — buildingSMART International (bSI) is pleased to announce that buildingSMART México has been formally approved as a "Chapter-in-formation". The latest Chapter to join the buildingSMART community becomes the 39th globally and the 3rd in Latin America.
buildingSMART México will lead the digital transformation of Mexico’s construction and infrastructure sectors by promoting openBIM standards and services. The chapter’s vision is to position Mexico as a regional leader in openBIM adoption, ensuring sustainable growth, greater collaboration, and alignment with international best practices.
As a non-profit organization, buildingSMART México will unite professionals, companies, academia, and government to drive innovation, interoperability, and efficiency across the Architecture, Engineering, Construction, Operation, and Maintenance (AECO) industries. Its strategy includes memberships, training, certifications, congresses, and strategic alliances with universities, industry, and government.
Alfred Waschl, Chairman of bSI, commented, “Mexico fully deserves the status of Chapter-in-formation, and we are delighted to welcome them to the buildingSMART community. Their commitment and dedication throughout the submission process has been truly impressive, and we are eager to see the continued advancement of openBIM in Mexico. As our 39th Chapter, we wish them every success and look forward to supporting their efforts in driving the adoption of openBIM.”
